Trauma, chronic stress, grief, loss, and overwhelming experiences can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves. Parts of our vitality, joy, confidence, creativity, or authentic identity may seem inaccessible as the nervous system becomes increasingly organized around survival rather than connection.
Fragmentation occurs when an experience exceeds our capacity to fully process and integrate it. As a protective adaptation, different aspects of the body, emotions, and mind may become disconnected from one another. Even after the original experience has passed, these protective patterns can continue to influence how we feel, perceive, react, and relate to life.
