Lymphatic Technique Module 8: The Psoas and the Low Back
Lymphatic Movement in the gut:
Psoas issues disrupt the flow of lymph in the body, especially in the gut which may lead to a stress plagued digestive tract
Lower Back Pain:
Tight or overly contracted psoas muscles can contribute to lower back pain. When the psoas is chronically tight, it can pull on the lumbar spine, leading to discomfort and stiffness.
Hip Pain:
A dysfunctional psoas can cause hip pain, especially in the front of the hip or groin area. This pain can be sharp or dull and may worsen with movement.
Poor Posture:
An imbalanced or tight psoas can lead to poor posture, including an exaggerated arch in the lower back (hyperlordosis) and a forward-tilted pelvis. This can contribute to a range of musculoskeletal issues.
Gait Problems:
A dysfunctional psoas can affect your gait (walking pattern), causing limping or an uneven stride.
Digestive Issues:
Some individuals may experience digestive problems related to a tight psoas, as it can compress abdominal organs, potentially leading to discomfort or digestive dysfunction.
Breathing Difficulties:
The psoas connects to the diaphragm, and tightness in the psoas can restrict diaphragmatic movement, leading to shallow or restricted breathing.
Emotional Stress:
Some practitioners of bodywork and holistic therapies believe that the psoas muscle can store emotional tension, and releasing it may result in emotional releases or changes in emotional well-being.
Pelvic Pain:
Dysfunctional psoas muscles can contribute to pelvic pain, especially in women.
